About Keith Hern

2007 had begun just like the previous two years, and focus was on continuing to build my photographic business, which I had started in 2005. After twenty five years in corporate sales I had a mid-life career enlightenment and swapped to life behind the lens, inspired initially by the Australian photographer Peter Lik.

Customer numbers were growing, the website developing nicely
(www.keithhern.com), and a new project to start building a London photo library was underway with an old friend, Sampson Lloyd. Through local networking, customer referrals and repeat business all was starting to look very promising.

Away from work I had just turned 49 and continued to pursue my main interests in life: travel, sport (golf, real tennis, skiing, and when somewhere hot scuba diving). At home, my teenage daughter was getting along fine at school, and had her eyes on drama college after her GCSEs. My wife was doing really well at Dell Computers.

All was going well until I found a small lump on the side of my neck, and after various tests I was sent into hospital to see a consultant to be told those three words that changed my life – ‘you have cancer’.

Everything that was involved in that journey was recorded, photographed and included in Bangers & Mash in the hope that my experience might just be of help to anyone else going through the same testing times. From the mental meltdown that followed diagnosis to the trek across Iceland in 2009 (during which I raised almost £8,000 for The Royal Marsden Hospital) it’s all covered and illustrated with photographs.

Three years on and I now provide regular updates of work and life areas I am involved in via my blog ww.keithhern.wordpress.com, and keep my growing contact base updated via a quarterly e-newsletter.
